Richard Russi Obituary

Richard Dale Russi (aka Rick, Ricky) passed away after a long hospital stay August 16, 2024. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 7, 1958 to Betty Ruth Russi and Anthony (Tony) Russi who were both lifelong residents of Sanford. Rick fell in love with insurance as a young boy and started working with his Father at the family business, Tony Russi Insurance Agency, at age 16 in 1974. He became a licensed insurance agent when he was just 18 years old and became the owner/president with his brother Tony Russi Jr in later years. As an insurance agent, Rick made lifelong friendships and business associates and was loved by all. Rick excelled in sports in his childhood and through his adolescent years, particularly in baseball and boxing. He was a batboy for the Minnesota twins in the late 1960s during their spring training in Orlando. As an amateur boxer, he traveled around the US in the early 1970s. In the early 2000s, he became a certified USA Boxing Coach and started the non-profit, Sanford Boxing Club. In 2013 he received the Community Service Award from Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Among his other awards and achievements, he was a Rotary club member of the Rotary Club of Sanford-Breakfast since December 1979. He was the past president of the club from 1989-1990 and 2003-2004. He was also a past assistant governor of Rotary District 6980 and became a Paul Harris Fellow in 1995. Some of his other accomplishments include serving on the Sanford Fire Department Pension Board, First Congregational Church of Winter Park Board of Trustees, Sunday school teacher, and was a Greater Sanford Chambers of Commerce Ambassador. He always loved to spend time with his family and friends. Some of his hobbies included playing golf, tennis, horseback riding, boating, and motorcycle riding. He enjoyed traveling and the beach, as well as being a University of Florida Gator booster, and never missed attending a Florida Gators football game. Rick will be greatly missed by his family and friends and has made such a big impact on the community and everyone he meets.

Rick is survived by his longtime companion Barbara Ann Daniels, son Richard Dale (Latoria) Russi Jr., daughter Mya Collette (Jelisse) Russi-Oliver, two brothers Anthony "Tony" Russi Jr., and Randall "Randy" Russi.
